My understanding on Wifi connection is this: If you set the Wifi to auto, if your phone and watch go out of Bluetooth range, so long as they're both connected to the same Wifi network you'd be able to receive notifications. I have a 46mm Samsung Galaxy Watch (Bluetooth, no LTE). I just got off the phone and then off chat with Samsung asking questions about connecting my watch through Wifi.
